چکیده

We proposed and demonstrated a “refreshable microfluidic channel.” This channel was constructed between two stacked glass slides with a 100 m thick spacer. Each surface of the slides was frosted by being ground with an abrasive and made hydrophobic due to the treatment with 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexamethyldisilazane. A line was drawn on the surface using dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) as the ink. Because this DMSO line could work like priming water, a water solution flowed along the line and a channel formed, though there was no real groove on the surface. This channel could be easily erased by rinsing the slide with water. After drying the slide in air, we could reconstruct another channel o ( ©

Refreshable microfluidic channels constructed using an inkjet printer

This paper describes microfluidic channels that can be erased and then reconstructed. These channels were constructed between two stacked lass slides. These slides had ground and hydrophobic surfaces, and a line had previously been drawn on their surfaces using an inkjet printer ith a water-soluble liquid as its “ink”. A water solution was injected between the slides, and it flowed along the pr...

Development of a multichannel microfluidic analysis system employing affinity capillary electrophoresis for immunoassay.

A six-channel microfluidic immunoassay device with a scanned fluorescence detection system is described. Six independent mixing, reaction, and separation manifolds are integrated within one microfluidic wafer, along with two optical alignment channels. The manifolds are operated simultaneously and data are acquired using a singlepoint fluorescence detector with a galvano-scanner to step between...

Computer-controlled microcirculatory support system for endothelial cell culture and shearing.

Endothelial cells (ECs) lining the inner lumen of blood vessels are continuously subjected to hemodynamic shear stress, which is known to modify EC morphology and biological activity. This paper describes a self-contained microcirculatory EC culture system that efficiently studies such effects of shear stress on EC alignment and elongation in vitro. The culture system is composed of elastomeric...

Selective DNA screening in microfluidic channels by electrophoresis through hydrogel matrices

Advances in microchip design, coupled with novel bioassays have led to advances in the field of genetic diagnostics. Microfluidic devices offer analytical advantages for samples of low concentration and small sample volume due to directed, efficient mass transport of analytes through microfluidic networks. Although significant advances have been made in genetic assays using micro-arrays, there ...

Rapid Prototyping of Microfluidic Systems in Poly(dimethylsiloxane).

This paper describes a procedure that makes it possible to design and fabricate (including sealing) microfluidic systems in an elastomeric material [Formula: see text] poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) [Formula: see text] in less than 24 h. A network of microfluidic channels (with width >20 μm) is designed in a CAD program. This design is converted into a transparency by a high-resolution printer; ...
